$280 for six weeks (includes $30 metal), plus tool kit $90 (Please contact Kara@emergentarts.org for more information regarding financial aid scholarships. Tuition may be discounted up to 75% dependent upon income. Scholarships cannot be applied to metal or tool costs.)
In this 6 week class, professional jeweler and award winning jewelry designer, Mark London, will teach students the basics of silversmithing with a focus on constructing a silver ring band and earrings.
Students will learn some of the history of jewelry making, as well as studio and tool safety; how to saw, form, solder, and polish metal; and how to design, fabricate, and finish a piece of jewelry!
Silver is included in the cost of your tuition (about $30)
Emergent Arts will supply some tools, however, there are not enough for multiple students. Below is a list of items you are encouraged to have with you. Emergent Arts offers this kit for $90. If you would like to compile these tools for yourself, please email Kara@emergentarts.org for a list of links, if needed. If you are unable, due to financial cost, to purchase the kit or the tools on your own, please email kara@emergentarts.org.
The tool kit will include:
-saw frame with blades
-set of needle files
-wet dry sandpaper (fine grits)
-metric ruler
-scribe
-half round file
-calipers or dividers
