LEVEL: Beginner

Join weaver/instructor Yasmin Martin, for this fun, two part course! Using a rigid heddle loom, you will weave, not one, but TWO different projects: a wool scarf AND a cotton table runner. If you don’t have a rigid heddle loom, there are a limited supply of 10” Ashford SampleIt looms to rent. Please see details below. Also note, the first class is an hour longer than the other three.
PART ONE: In the first class, you will learn how to dress a loom and will be weaving a scarf by the time class ends. You will practice your weaving at home, between classes, for the duration of the course. The second class begins with cutting your scarf off the loom and learning finishing techniques. Wet finishing will be demonstrated. You will also learn how to calculate the amount of yarn needed for your second project.
PART TWO: In the third class, you will dress your loom for the second project, a table runner. You will learn to hemstitch, and learn pickup and other pattern techniques that add texture and interest to your weaving. The fourth class begins with cutting your project off the loom, practice finishing techniques you have learned, and learn how twist your fringe.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
  • A Rigid Heddle Loom, 8” minimum weaving width, with a 7.5 or 8 dent reed
  • Scissors, Tape Measure, Tapestry Needle, Pen and Notepad for taking notes
  • For your Scarf, bring 2 colors of #4 (worsted weight) wool yarn, approximately 300 yards each. Paton’s Worsted Wool Yarn suggested, or similar yarn
  • For your Table Runner, bring 2 colors of #4 (worsted weight) cotton yarn, approximately 300 yards each. Lily Sugar n’ Cream Cotton Yarn suggested, or similar yarn.

Both of these yarns are readily available at Michael’s and Walmart, as well as online retailers.

Loom Rental Fee is $20, for the length of the course. Looms will be turned in at the end of the last class. SUPPLY IS LIMITED. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY.
