"Holding it Together:
An Exhibition of Collage and Assemblage"
September 3- October 1st, 2021

Some of us have felt like we’re just holding it together these last 20 months or so, and in honor of that sentiment, the Circle Gallery at Emergent Arts is hosting its first art exhibition since 2019.

The Circle Gallery at Emergent Arts is calling for artwork which utilizes collage and assemblage techniques. Collage is typically a 2D method (though elements can protrude into the viewers’ space) and relies on pieced together images from a variety of sources. Collage can be digital, or analog with torn and cut paper; glued or sewn together; drawn or painted over. Assemblage most often refers to sculptural artwork which employs the use of found objects, and could be thought of as 3-Dimensional collage.
The concept of “Holding it together” can be explore literally (referring to the construction techniques of collage and assemblage) and conceptually, though the conceptual adherence to the theme is not required.

Emergent Arts can provide some collage materials such as patterned paper and magazines, plastic bottle caps in a variety of colors and sizes, fabric scraps, and potentially a variety of other materials to aid in the construction of your artwork. Emergent Arts is also teaming up with Phil Chwalinski to bring the Frankenbaby Assemblage Workshop to the studios on Saturday, August 14th. In Phil’s class, students will use porcelain baby doll parts and other found objects to make sculptural assemblages. Works completed during this class can be entered in the Holding It Together exhibition. Sign up for the class at www.emergentarts.org. Artwork delivery and specifications:
• Artists are invited to submit up to four 2D and 3D works for consideration
• Artwork may be delivered August 16-27th, Mon-Fri, between 1-4PM, or by appointment.
-All artists must communicate with Kara Gunter prior to delivery of artwork to ensure adequate installation space. This can be done via phone, 501-613-0352 or email: kara@emergentarts.org
Email preferred.
• Artwork must be ready to hang, framed or mounted, with hardware. Artwork must be structurally sound.
• Artwork must be original and signed.
• Please have details prepared when the artwork is delivered: Artist Name, Title of Artwork, Media, Price. You will be asked to fill out a consignment form at the time of delivery.
