No Kids Allowed – Summer Arts for Adults!

We are excited to launch a new program for Summer 2016 called No Kids Allowed – Summer Arts for Adults!  This program is intended for adults of all ages and will feature a Thursday evening class series and a Saturday workshop series.

Thursday evenings in June, July and August Emergent Arts will host the following classes from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.  Classes are for adults only.

Happy Hour Hafla:  Led by Teaching Artist Gianna St. Grace

An open dance session and fun opportunity to just dance it out!  There is no formal instruction, just a steady flow of music and a variety of dancers to interact with.  BYOB.  Students under 21 must communicate with Emergent Arts prior to registration.

Stitchin’-N-Bitchin’: Led by Teaching Artist Roxy Rose

Participants can bring fiber projects they are currently working on or come to gain guidance and inspiration for starting a new project.  Basic materials, including yarn, fabric, etc. are available but participants are encouraged to bring their own materials if they wish.  BYOB.  Students under 21 must communicate with Emergent Arts prior to registration.

Drink-N-Draw Figure Drawing: Led by Teaching Artist Tansill Stough

This monthly open drawing session is an informal opportunity for figure drawing.  Each class will have a live model to enhance the figure drawing experience.  To add to the fun the models will use costume items and props.  No drawing experience necessary.  Basic drawing materials are available but participants are encouraged to bring their own materials and easel if you wish.  BYOB.  Students under 21 must communicate with Emergent Arts prior to registration.

Plein Aire Painting: Taught by Teaching Artist Cynthia Schanink.

Classes will focus on the hot water springs and how to capture the steam in watercolor paintings.  Participants will complete a painting in each two hour class.

On selected Saturdays in June and August Emergent Arts will offer the following workshops.  These workshops are intended to provide a ‘sneak peek’ of classes and workshops that will be provided throughout the coming programming year.

Fees for each Saturday Workshop: $25.00 Tuition and $5.00 Supply Fee.

 

Intro to Natural Dyes: DIY Silk Scarf with Sofia Gonzalez: Sat., June 11th 1pm – 4pm

Learn your local color palette! This class will introduce students to the many possibilities of natural dyeing and using materials found in nature, your backyard, and your kitchen to create art. Each participant will dye a silk scarf that they will take with them, in addition to a recipe book and samples of the color palette we create that day.  (Register HERE)

Sketching with Tansill Stough: Saturday, June 25th 1:00pm – 4:00pm

This workshop is for students who would like to brush up on their drawing skills. Block Printing on Fabric Workshop with Jeri Hillis: Saturday, August 13th 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Join Teaching Artist Jeri Hillis in this one day block printing textile workshop. Block printing is a traditionally, easy, non-toxic, and adaptable way to print patterns on fabric. Students will learn the steps of printing on fabric, from designing their own composition, motif or pattern, making and carving their own linoleum block. Students will leave the workshop with prints on paper, patterns on fabric and a completed design print on a pillow cover.  (Register HERE)
