Emergent Arts Releases Our Spring Class Schedule for Adults!

One silver lining to the all the social distancing is that we have been able to recruit teaching artists who wouldn't normally be able to physically join us for class at Emergent Arts! Because of this, we are offering our most diverse and jam-packed class schedule ever. See below for a quick summary, and be sure to check out our website and Facebook page for more information about the classes and teachers.

Unless otherwise stated, all workshops/classes are digital and live, and conducted via Zoom (you do not need a paid subscription to Zoom to participate). While you won't be in the same room with the instructor, it will still be an intimate experience with plenty of one-on-one contact. All of our instructors are skilled teachers with many hours of teaching experience under their belts, and class sizes are kept small to insure you won't feel like a faceless participant!

In this three hour class, students will create a digital work of art that incorporates lettering, photo editing, and self-expression through imagery and text. This class is designed with the success of the absolute beginner in mind (as well as enjoyable for the more experienced artist), and will lead students step-by-step through the process from beginning to end. Students will learn to create a final work of art that shows depth through overlapping and shading. These final works of art will be JPEG (picture) format, and can be displayed either digitally on social media or printed and framed. We will be using a web-based photo editing platform called Photopea, which is similar to Photoshop, and the skills learned through this workshop will be transferrable.

Deana Rennick is an art teacher in Sumter, South Carolina. She's taught both on the high school and college level. She enjoys making art fun and accessible, so is well-versed in teaching others how to expertly utilize free apps and programs to create graphically strong works of art. Marlene Gremillion, a Hot Springs Village, Arkansas artist, enjoys creating and designing in many mediums, and has done so for over 35 years. Texture, color and light play an important role in what she designs, be it in oil, pastel, watercolor, collage, glass, polymer clay or jewelry. She enjoys working, manipulating and creating with her hands and experiments to see if she can come out with a
pleasing artistic piece. “It sort of reminds me of being a child at play. I just enjoy having fun along with it being therapeutic for me”.

Marlene is active in the arts and enjoys teaching. “I enjoy watching others learn and get excited about creating their own works. As adults, we forget to have fun. I encourage students to do just that; you must enjoy what you are doing in order to be creative and then it shows in your works.”

Marlene has taught at the National Park Community College in Continuing Education and at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock. She also enjoys traveling and teaching workshops. She is a registered teacher through the Arts on Tour with the
Arkansas Arts Council Little Rock, AR. Marlene is in the Arkansas Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts' 2017-2018 Artists Registry.

She recently organized the Ouachita Mountain Polymer Clay Guild in Arkansas. Her works are in galleries throughout Arkansas.
Marlene is a signature member of Mid-Southern Watercolorists, Louisiana Watercolor Society and Arkansas Pastel Society.
