Giving Tuesday, November 29th
Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and after the widely recognized shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable giving season. Emergent Arts will participate in #GivingTuesdayAR on November 29th, a day that focuses on holiday giving rather than holiday spending. Call for Proposals – Spring 2017
Calling all artists! If you have ever considered teaching a class at Emergent Arts please consider submitting a proposal.
Emergent Arts is requesting proposals from Teaching Artists in all disciplines of art for the Spring 2017 calendar. Classes and workshops should offer emerging artists of all ages exciting opportunities to explore various mediums and themes that are relevant to their age group and skill level. Proposals for all types of visual and performing arts are welcome.

New classes starting in October!
It’s starting to feel like fall and we are excited to have FOUR new classes and workshops offered in the month of October. Please take a look at the exciting things we have coming up at Emergent Arts!
Intro to Pine Needle Basketry: Tuesdays October 4, 11, 18 from 6:00 – 8:00. This class is intended for high school students and adults. Students will learn to gather, clean,and prepare materials sustainably. Basic coiling techniques will be taught so that students can create a complete basket or a sculpture of their own design. ($60.00 tuition fee $5.00 supply fee)
Jewelry Making Workshop: Wednesdays October 19th – November 30th 6:00 – 8:00. This series of classes is intended for students who have experience with Jewelry Making and will allow for hands-on work time in the studio to make unique jewelry. ($100.00 Tuition and $60.00 Supply Fee)
Movement and Voice: Wednesdays October 5 – 26 6:00 – 7:00. This class is for kids age 8 – 12. This class explores the process of embodying characters and establishing stage presence through movement and vocal techniques. ($50.00 tuition fee)
Intro to Natural Dyes Workshop: Saturday October 22 3:00 – 6:00. This class is intended for high school students and adults. In this class we will walk around the Emergent Arts neighborhood to explore local weeds and plants. We will carefully collect samples to be experiment with to make natural dyes and watercolors. We will plot a map of color given maps of the local neighborhood. Dye samples and maps will be available to take home. We will discuss waste, weeds, and how to create awareness of the local environment. In season dye plants, like sumac, will also be used to dye with. ($30.00 workshop fee $5 supply fee)

The second edition of our Arts Quarterly newsletter is now live on the website! In this edition we continue to share our successes and celebrate the wonderful happenings at Emergent Arts and around our community. It is a very busy time of year for us – take a peak and see what we are up to!

We are excited about the Fall 2016 programming semester and we hope you will join us for classes! Emergent Arts will offer a wide range of classes for kids and adults including painting, drawing, clay, creative writing, yoga, & theater – just to name a few!

No Kids Allowed – Summer Arts for Adults!
We are excited to launch a new program for Summer 2016 called No Kids Allowed – Summer Arts for Adults! This program is intended for adults of all ages and will feature a Thursday evening class series and a Saturday workshop series.
Thursday evenings in June, July and August Emergent Arts will host the following classes from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Classes are for adults only.
Happy Hour Hafla: Led by Teaching Artist Gianna St. Grace
An open dance session and fun opportunity to just dance it out! There is no formal instruction, just a steady flow of music and a variety of dancers to interact with. BYOB. Students under 21 must communicate with Emergent Arts prior to registration.

Stitchin’-N-Bitchin’: Led by Teaching Artist Roxy Rose
Participants can bring fiber projects they are currently working on or come to gain guidance and inspiration for starting a new project. Basic materials, including yarn, fabric, etc. are available but participants are encouraged to bring their own materials if they wish. BYOB. Students under 21 must communicate with Emergent Arts prior to registration.

Drink-N-Draw Figure Drawing: Led by Teaching Artist Tansill Stough
This monthly open drawing session is an informal opportunity for figure drawing. Each class will have a live model to enhance the figure drawing experience. To add to the fun the models will use costume items and props. No drawing experience necessary. Basic drawing materials are available but participants are encouraged to bring their own materials and easel if you wish. BYOB. Students under 21 must communicate with Emergent Arts prior to registration.

Plein Aire Painting: Taught by Teaching Artist Cynthia Schanink.
Classes will focus on the hot water springs and how to capture the steam in watercolor paintings. Participants will complete a painting in each two hour class.

On selected Saturdays in June and August Emergent Arts will offer the following workshops. These workshops are intended to provide a ‘sneak peek’ of classes and workshops that will be provided throughout the coming programming year.
Fees for each Saturday Workshop: $25.00 Tuition and $5.00 Supply Fee.

This workshop is for students who would like to brush up on their drawing skills. Students will get personalized instruction and participate in class feedback. No drawing experience necessary. Block Printing on Fabric Workshop with Jeri Hillis: Saturday, August 13th 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Join Teaching Artist Jeri Hillis in this one day block printing textile workshop. Block printing is a traditionally, easy, non-toxic, and adaptable way to print patterns on fabric. Students will learn the steps of printing on fabric, from designing their own composition, motif or pattern, making and carving their own linoleum block. Students will leave the workshop with prints on paper, patterns on fabric and a completed design print on a pillow cover. (Register HERE)

The Circle Gallery at Emergent Arts is pleased to announce “CHROMAtic Scale”: Artwork Inspired by Music. The exhibit will display June 3 – 30, with an opening reception on Friday, June 3, 5:00 – 8:00 pm as part of Gallery Walk.

In the spirit of tying together these beginnings and endings, the exhibit CHROMAtic Scale invites artists to create artwork that is inspired by music and/or features music imagery.
Artwork delivery and specifications:
- Artwork must be delivered no later than Wednesday, June 1, 5pm.
- All artists must communicate with Erin Holliday prior to delivery of artwork to ensure adequate installation space. This can be done via phone, 501-655-0836 or email: erin@emergentarts.org
- Each artist may have 1-4 pieces exhibited depending on size.
- Artwork may be any media and/or size, ready to hang with hardware.
- Artwork must be inspired by music, musical instruments, or musicians and/or contain images of these subjects. The artist may present any imagery, concept, or theme utilizing these. Please remember that our gallery is family friendly and school-age children will view the exhibits.
- Artwork must be original and signed.
- Please have details prepared when the artwork is delivered: Artist Name, Title of Artwork, Media, Price. You will be asked to fill out a consignment form at time of delivery.
