Feeling Inspired by Yayoi Kusama

If you regularly drive by Emergent Arts on Whittington Ave, you might notice the look of the building changes once every year as a new mural is painted on the front of our building. Each summer, the community comes together to help support Emergent Arts at our Annual Fundraiser Ice Cream Social. During the social, community members work together with artist Jeri Hillis, to bring a new vision to life.

This year, we are very excited that our new mural will be inspired by the organic shapes and bright, bold colors of Yayoi Kusama! Come join us on August 17th, 2019 from 2-5pm. With your ice cream in one hand and a paintbrush in the other, you can help us transform our space!

How do you mount works on paper, anyway?

As artists, diy is usually the name of the game, but we don’t always know how to present our work in a professional, archival manner without shelling out money that might be better spent on art supplies. Here’s your quick guide:

Call for Spring 2019 Class Proposals

Calling all artists!  If you have ever considered teaching a class at Emergent Arts please consider submitting a proposal.

Emergent Arts is requesting proposals from Teaching Artists in all disciplines of art for the Spring 2019 semester. Classes and workshops offer emerging artists of all ages exciting opportunities to explore various mediums and themes that are relevant to their age group and skill level.  Proposals for all types of visual and performing arts are welcome.

Our Spring calendar runs from February 5th through May 25th. Classes can span 4 weeks or up to the full semester in length.  Single day workshops are also welcome. Please see our proposal form below for more details.

Applications are due Tuesday, November 5th.

“Indulgences” 5th Anniversary Fundraiser

Come and celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Emergent Arts at “Indulgences” on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 6 o’clock in the evening. Hosted by Ms. Dorothy Morris, and Davis and Suellen Tillman, the festivities will take place at 116 Central Avenue (upper level).

Your ticket to “Indulgences” includes multi-course hors d’oeuvres, designer desserts, champagne bar, and specialty cocktails provided by Deep Eddy Vodka. The evening’s entertainment boasts cabaret-style performances, mystic readings, and of course great art. There will also be opportunities throughout the evening to further support the work of Emergent Arts.

This event is not to be missed!

Summer Camp 2018

Register now for Summer Art Camp!  Ages 5-14. Students will work in three art classes and projects will include, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and clay. All materials + snack included. Students will need a sack lunch. This year’s dates are July 10-13 and July 17-20, 9am-3pm. Click here to register

Creative Writing Camp is July 24-27. Ages 13+ 10am-2:30pm Students will take part in creative writing classes with local poet Kai Coggin and a bookmaking class. All materials + snack included, students bring a sack lunch.  Click here to register

Foraging for Inspiration – New Workshop Series in May

May is Arkansas Heritage Month and we are celebrating with a series of 5 workshops + a field trip!

Foraging for Inspiration focuses on teaching artists of all ages and skill levels how to use native Arkansas plants and minerals in their creative practice.

Call for Summer Camp Teaching Artists

Emergent Arts is pleased to announce a Request for Teaching Artist Applications for Summer Camp 2018. Summer Camp is for students age 5 to 14.

Emergent Arts is requesting applications from interested teaching artists in all disciplines of art to join our staff for Children’s Summer Camp 2018 (July). Classes and workshops should offer student artists exciting opportunities to explore various mediums and themes. Although camp is primarily visual arts based, applications in all types of creative writing and visual and performing arts are welcome.

Applications for Summer Art Camp are due by Monday April 2ndAll applications will be reviewed by the Programming Committee at that time.  Interested individuals must submit a letter of interest and resume, c.v or biographical information to support your qualifications as a teaching artist.
